We have people in Greenville County South Carolina distorting the facts and doing Spin Doctor warping of the the truth to make the statistics say more than Fifty Percent (>50%) of residents Do NOT contribute to paying for "Free Public Education" via Real Estate Poperty Taxes.
Also, this same class of person(s) insinuate that only homeowners are stable and pay a Real Estate Property Tax Bill (RETPB), from which a high percentage goes to the County School District to support "Free Public Education."
Spouting off, crying wolf, that more than 50% of county residents don't pay a dime toward the cost of Free Public Education through Real Estate Property Taxes. What a sham, sounds like Enron - World Com MCI accounting practices. It's possible to make the figures show whatever you desire if presented in your favor.
People and friends if you believe that malarkey and allow yourself to get hoodwinked into eliminating property taxes because someone with over a Quarter-Million-Dollar Living Residence gets "sticker-shock" when receiving their yearly REPTB, just know if the "Average Citizen" ever votes to eliminate property taxes then taxes on every day items such as Sales Tax and Pay-Roll Income Tax Deductions will "skyrocket-upward."
Ask yourself, if property taxes are eliminated, will a "Use Tax" probably be imposed on most County Government Services? Will the Library remain free? Will the cost of "building permits" rise to an absurd high figure? Will Sheriffs Deputies get "laid-off" right and left? Will "Fire Protection Services" receive funding? Where will the funds come from? How high will other taxes rise to pay for County Government Services? I do not have the answers, but I can count to 21 without taking off my shoes and trousers, getting a dose of Viagra to expose all available counting digits.
The very first paragraph above, may have some truth to it, but not enough truth to qualify the Spin Doctor bald-face lie and falsehood of the second paragraph.
Apartment Renters - Mobile Home Lot Renters "Do Not" receive a REPTB.
Students living in a college dormitary do not receive a REPTB.
Children living with a parent/guardian do not receive a REPTB.
Grown adults living with a friend or relative do not receive a REPTB.
If the spouse of a property owner is not listed, it = not counted.
So, add'em up, the total figure for these probably exceed 50%.
However it's "very deceitful" and basically "dishonest" to use figures this way.
Now, if you are one those suckers who believe landlords of renters pay property taxes out of the goodness of their heart without including it in the rent, enough money to cover REPTB, then what can I say? You should stand up and say "hoodwink me" or cheat me - trick me, because that's fair.
Do renters pay personal property taxes with millage to the school district?
Homestead Exemption: Our State Government reimburses with a fee-in-kind our County Government for the taxes the county is not allowed to collect because of the State Law.
Every parcel of real estate that does not have an exemption receives a REPTB.
Places such as churches, Salvation Army, rescue missions are exempt.
Bob Jones University, Furman University, Greenville Technical College, North Greenville College are some properties I did not check on.
How about government subsidized housing projects?
Every property with a "for profit business" on it receives a REPTB.
Hotel and Motel Guests pay toward a very big REPTB, (ie...out of county people).
In my opinion we should raise real estate property tax rates, so those I refer to as baldface - lying - two faced - forked tongue - Snobbish S.O.B.'s get to pay extra for thumbing their noses at me for paying taxes on a modest condominium. All the good honest - stable people living in rented apartments and trailer parks are not "trash," most of them are good "blue-collar" working people and I ask them to Vote Against any attempt to eliminate real estate property taxes.
