Jack Taylor - Greenville, South Carolina.

To repeal these taxes, it will be a return to serfdom for corrupt princes in palaces living in plantation mansions taking advantage of renting to "share-croppers".

If we repeal property taxes, be careful not to get run over in the rush of greedy people trying to buy up property for rental. Wanna bet they'll reduce rental rates an even amount if taxes are removed?

By their very nature these taxes result in a graduated tax scale which does not allow loopholes for the deceitful influential, ungrateful powerful, and corrupt rich to escape responsibility. Guess why some want to eliminate these equitable taxes.
In general, they are a matter of public record and cannot be hidden.

Should everyone pay to support government

as their means make them able?

People who enjoy the greatest aspects of our society should have a greater obligation to protect and ensure continuation of a society which provides them the opportunity to become influential, powerful, and rich.

To Repeal the Property Taxes will just put more money into the pockets of the corrupt, deceitful, and ungrateful. Note with care I say "corrupt - deceitful - ungrateful."

These types of taxes are the most equitable and fair.

I am NOT against people being rich. We need people who are capable of using their ability and wits to become rich. Without them, our society would march backwards. The rich deserve and should work for more efficent government which will lessen the tax burden for all us.

Do NOT bad mouth the rich, because the rich pay a lot of taxes. Honest gain should be enjoyed and protected, perhaps admired. People who attempt to shirk responsibility through legal loopholes have got to be stopped. Because it is lawful and legal does not always make it a rewarding contribution to best continue a free society.  It is Not Fair to have UnEqual Rates.

The rich should be taxed at the same rate as everyone else.

No progression in rates.

No Deductions, No Exemptions, No Rebates.

Give'em the proverbial inch and they take a full mile.

Sorry, no apology for the digression to Income Tax.

It's magnified loopholes of credits, deductions, exemptions.

Cooking the Books the same as ENRON and WorldCom-MCI.

Congress passing a Law to put a Fee on every Stock Trade

Transaction Buy-Sell to fund the auditors - inspectors for

the Securities Exchange Commission and then appropriating

more than two-thirds of the funds collected for Pork-Barrel

in members districts instead of auditors inspectors lawyers.

It's LEGAL because it's the same as a Law.

Cooking the Books by Special Interest Laws.

Unless you have the wherewithal to take it to The U.S. Supreme Court as Unconstitutional - Misappropriation of Funds, Good Luck, unless you have someone writing Special Interest Laws for you.
To: Congress Sub-Committee on STOCK TRADE FEE.

If a repeal of property taxes is implemented, there will have to be a shift in the collection of taxes to other sources. It will be more and higher taxes on the basic necessities the average citizen requires for survival. Areas such as income tax - sales and use taxes, where loopholes are very craftily designed and written into law for the corrupt and undeserving through cronies and favoritism.

No Credits, No Deductions, No Exemptions.

Rebates - Refunds only for overpayment.

No Earned Income Credit.

It is adjustments, credits, deductions, and exemptions that are crafted and twisted into special interest laws which are used to protect crooks and greed.  The overwhelming mass of average citizens who control all elections who vote blindly on popularity deserve all the dirt dumped on them.   For those who endorse it and support it by voting for those who implement special interest laws, they deserve to be controlled by politicians laughingly saying the masses don't know no better.

One example I really need help thinking about is the case of the absentee property owner. Someone who owns large amounts of property within a county or state but does not live there. What - who is the tax base? Who pays the taxes to support government there?

Does the absentee property owner get fire

and police protection for the property?

Does the owner make money by renting out the property? Will the property increase in value and the owner make a nice profit if the property is sold? Is there a sales tax on real estate property sales? This poor - dumb - hillbilly just can't figure it out. HELP!

I can understand if a person is not there they don't need protection of their body nor education of their mind, but there is a whole lot more to it.

-

Wait a minute, we could eliminate or severely reduce fire protection - law enforcement - educational institutions and have an all volunteer service work force, working without pay.

Just expense only reimbursement if funds are available.

We can all dig in the property owners dirt. Dirt don't burn, dirt don't steal, and you don't need much of an education to tell the difference between dirt and a rock.

No comments here about the effects of creative accounting by greedy business property owners selling stocks and bonds.
You should know.
Don't lie to me and don't play me for a fool about special interest laws. If it is NOT ILLEGAL it cannot be stopped. That's tough. That's the way it is.

Why should we make theft from society legal?

When the property owner has possessions stolen, we can form a posse to catch those taking it. Tell "Granny" to get her butt out of the rocking chair, get her gun and get out here tonight. We've got crooks to round up. It's up to her and she has got do it or she'll get evicted.
There's nobody left, about all the good average citizens have moved to better places for them. There are no ablebodied trustworthy people left to hire as private security guards.

-

People who standup and ask to be hoodwinked with trickery to enhance special interests will have the opportunity to pay extra from another pocket.

Let's not eliminate the opportunity to contribute for those who have the most ability to contribute.  We can make or expand a type of "Homestead Exemption" for those on fixed - limited income with a limited amount of property used only for the necessity of shelter from the elements.

We do not have to be as mean as a deadly snake in the grass devouring the insect and pest eating good frogs and lizards to have reasonable government instead of tyranny for corrupt princes in palaces who manipulate the buying and selling of property for excessive gains at the expense of others.

If too much is collected in taxes the rates could be reduced, but not likely.
We have to provide funds for government services through taxation.

Let each person provide

as their own means

make them able,

which to me is

truly admirable.

Do something about legalized theft from society

An Opposing Opinion

If you have evidence - proof of record about someone being evicted from their residence due to loss of their residence because of it being 'sold for back taxes', then you're encouraged to read the following.  How about sending me some reference to the record of evidence and I'll post it here for all to see.

"I can't understand why you feel property taxes are fair. Real property owners who aren't "business" people, ones who just work everyday so they can have the house and yard of their own, pay more than enough. They also bear the burden of losing their hard earned, worked for material gains. Fall on hard times or just don't pay those so-called fair and equitable taxes and see how long it takes them to throw you out on your ass. Lose what you've worked your life for. Hell renters just lose the roof over their head not their life's investment. A government grant or some other handout will take care of them (More tax dollars at work) but they don't give grants to buy your house back for you. You lose it. A sales tax increase is the only way to have a fair tax. Tax everything though. Home sales, cars. (NO food tax on store bought items. Tax the hell out of restaurants). No limits such as $300 on a new car. Pay the whole amount one time and be done with it. As far as a free library and such, let the ones who use it pay for it. I don't owe anybody a free ride".
Nolan

Nolan,
If you are one of those who believe we can have a 'free society' without a 'free library', then would you enlighten me about it?

A 'free society' sounds like an oxymoron when paying taxes,  especially if you only think in terms of dollars and cents.
There is a big picture of an ideal out there, grasping the idea is difficult for some people, it interferes with selfishness.
