Stainless Steel Coffee Filter Holder

SUPERB COFFEE

              REQUIRES THREE SIMPLE THINGS:

  1.   Correct Water Temperature.     [ First Page ]
  2.   Very Finely Ground Coffee.       [ Second Page ]
  3.   Very Short Brewing Time.          [ This Page ]
Coffee Beans.                            [ Next Page ]

This page provides details about a Filter Holder to obtain a brewing time of less than one minute for a cup of superb coffee.  That is the time from when the water is poured onto the coffee grounds until a cupful is brewed.

I hate stale coffee, so brewing two or more cups to a pot full, allowing it to remain on a hot burner and deteriorate is not superb coffee.  My wife does not like her coffee as strong as mine, therefore two different makers are required when we want coffee at the same time.  Choosy, discerning, particular about coffee, yes, I've earned it and most of all I deserve it.

Stop the "dredges" and "last - leeching" which most machines can't avoid.

CAUTION:   Using very finely ground coffee (Turkish Grind) in an automatic drip coffee maker will probably result in an overflow mess, because the filter will clog, if you attempt to make more than two cups.  Guess why Expresso Machines usually make only One or Two cups at a time, with extra time for clean-up of the strainer-basket.  I prefer the ease of clean-up by a disposable filter.

Since it is virtually impossible to find an automatic drip machine that produces the desired water temperature, why use one anyway.   Superb Coffee is what this is about, not convenience.   There are reasons why many people are claiming automatic drip coffee is passé, one is, it just doesn't taste good enough.  Too much compromise in taste to get automation.

The Filter Holder is very Simple.  Made from a three-quarter quart ( 3/4 qt ) Stainless Steel Mixing Bowl. With upto seven holes in the bottom, 1/4 inch (6mm-to-7mm) diameter, formed-flared in a trumpet-cone shape.  Found in department and discount stores, usual cost $00.99 -to- $1.75.

The Seperator-Spacer is a 308 Stainless Steel Rod,  about 36 inches or 1 meter in length,  3/32 inch in diameter (2.4 -to- 2.5 mm),  bent-formed in a flower petal manner with the outer areas (flutes) bent upward to fit into the bottom of the filter holder.  Available in most Welding Shops or from Welding Supply Distributors.  The Seperator-Spacer along with Hole Shape and Size is the SECRET for Fast Brewing.  They overcome the "meniscus effect on capillary action and surface tension" to allow the coffee-water to flow through the filter faster.

Causes Slow Flow, results in poor taste.

Space and Gravity overcoming surface tension,
promoting faster flow and much better taste.
Reload - Refresh if dripping stops.

Use a Black and Decker Bullet-Drill® to make holes.
Suggest five holes or less if bowl bottom is small, just one hole will perform.
Debur hole edges prior to making flare - trumpet.
Be gentle on flaring hole edge, to avoid splitting metal.
I use a 1/4-20 flathead screw through hole into threaded and
slightly countersunk fixture on a 1/2" thick metal plate.
The outer upward bend on seperator flutes must be such that the
bottom of the filter is about 1/8" (3mm - 4mm) above filter holder.

If you would like me to make you a filter holder and spacer, the cost is
$12.50 (US funds) for labor, parts, and postage to US addresses.

International requires additional postage cost for 8 ounces (0.25 kg) each.

Seperator-Spacer "Replacement Only", $3.00 cash, only to previous purchasers.

This is not a business, but a service to those not mechanically inclined,
or without the tools, or on a tight schedule with limited spare time.

No Credit Card Processing.  Too much hassle for a non-business.

Actually it is a nice little craft project to Do It Yourself.

The Natural Brew® Filter is of the correct porosity to allow oils and minuscule particles of sediment to pass through which are required to obtain the ultimate taste in superb coffee.  Some other filters work, but not as good nor as fast in my opinion.
